Luciana + Shawn were actually wedding guests at my best friends wedding last year (remember the wedding that I was both a bridesmaid AND their photographer?), yep, that one. One of my favorite wedding days to date! Luci and my dear friend Rachel actually went to nursing school together, what a small world! When Luci reached out to me to schedule a maternity session for her and her hubs I was so so excited!
Luci really wanted a place that had a mixture of the elements; water, trees, fields – her words exactly stated those elements would add to the divine aspect of generating a life and right in that moment I knew I adored her!
Luci + Shawn are expecting to welcome their sweet baby boy, Benjamin in only a few short weeks. We talked about their nursery decorations, what nickname they would call Benjamin, we talked about their love story and how they’re going to be celebrating their five year wedding anniversary soon. These two just touched my heart, I absolutely adored how sweet they are to each other.
But let me tell you something you guys, THAT WIND was not playing around haha. Poor Luci couldn’t catch a break for longer than a minute with her flowy gown and long hair. The craziest part about the weather was that it was 70 degrees out the day before. Welp, we barely squeezed by with 40 degree weather and wind that was ready to take us away into the sunset! But they handled it like true champions!
Something funny also happened to me during this session, some of you might remember this from my Insta story right after this session because I just HAD to tell someone. A few months back, maybe 5 months ago or more, I lost the lens cap to my 50 mm…..so I thought. I figured I might have just set it down during the crazy wedding days, maybe it was in a hotel room or bridal suite somewhere, never to be seen again. Well as it turns out I also shoot at Jefferson Patterson Park more than I probably should admit. So I’m walking down a path I frequent, go to set my bag down in a spot I can only assume is the spot I typically set it….and BOOM, there’s a Canon lens cap half way buried in the dirt….and it also happens to be a 50 mm lens cap. I remember picking it up and saying to Luci and Shawn “oh hey, someone must have dropped….OH MY GOSH IS THIS A JOKE?!?!” I couldn’t stop laughing at the odds of this happening. That 5 months later I would find my lens cap half way buried in the dirt just waiting for me. Funny how things work out like that.
Anyways, that is definitely enough of my rambling and silly stories for the evening, let’s get to the part you guys actually came here for – Luci and Shawn! I am so beyond happy for you both. Benjamin is going to be one lucky little dude having you two as parents. Congratulations!
